Drink in the sunshine
Now, we don't want to jinx this run of good weather we have been blessed with recently, but the Green Dragon has finally gotten official blessing for our outdoor seating. So you can now enjoy your beers and food at our picnic tables on the west side of the building. One caveat, though: you have to be seated at the table to drink alcohol. There is no roaming about while quaffing.
Where were you on 7-7-7?
That was supposed to be the grand opening for the Green Dragon. But construction and licensing delays caused us to miss our projected opening by just a couple of months. We threw a private party anyway and had such a great time, we decided to celebrate again this year. And this time, everyone is invited to our First Anniversary Missed Opening and Grand Re-opening Party. Our new Happy Hour menu will be available all day and we'll have Ninkasi Total Domination (the first keg to blow at the 7-7-7 party, as well as beer from Bend Brewing (the only other brewery on tap at the first party.)
Libation Alley grows
We like to call our little slice of town Libation Alley, since there are four distilleries (soon to be five) and two breweries (soon to be three) in the swath from Division to Stark and from 7th Ave to 14th.
The newest member of Libation Alley is Highball Distillery (http://highballdistillery.blogspot.com), located just up the street at 610 S.E. 10th Ave. Highball's first product, Elemental Vodka is in liquor stores now and will soon be on the shelf at the Green Dragon. Highball joins our neighbors, Integrity Spirits (www.integrityspirits.com), House Spirits (www.housespirits.com) and New Deal Distillery (www.newdealdistillery.com). On deck next is Artisan Spirits (www.artisan-spirits.com).
And, by this fall, we will join our brewing neighbors, the Lucky Labrador (www.luckylab.com) and Roots Organic Brewing (www.rootsorganicbrewing.com) to make this the most beery and spirited neighborhood in town.
Meet the chef
He's not really a new face, since he has been around the Dragon for a few months now, but Troy Harris has taken over management of the kitchen. A Portland State University and Clark College culinary program grad, Troy is also a member of the local band My Journey Between the Holes. Before coming to the Dragon, he worked at the Oregon Zoo.
Meet the brewers
In honor of Oregon Craft Beer Month (you didn't know July was Oregon Craft Beer Month?), we will have a lineup of Oregon brewers for our Tuesday night Meet the Brewer nights.
July 1, Alameda Brewhouse's Eric Walthen kicks things off with Ben Flerchinger from Lucky Lab following on July 8. July 15, it Jason McAdam from Roots with Double Mountain Brewing's Matt Swihart and Charlie Devereaux following. And, finally, on July 29, it's Anders Johansen of Southern Oregon Brewing.
That wraps it up for this week, folks.
See you soon in -- or outside – the Dragon.
